Policy forum on mobile learning calls for gender equality in education

PARIS, March 11 (KUNA) -- Chairperson of the international women's day summit Bashayer Al-Awwad, of Kuwait, said Friday the first policy forum on mobile learning called for developing better mobile learning strategies.
The forum, jointly organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the UNESCO, falls in the framework of the ITU M-Powering Development Initiative, she told KUNA.
Eng. Al-Awwad said the aim of the just-ended gathering was to harnessing mobile technology to achieve inclusive and equitable quality education.
The forum brought together ministers of education and ministers in charge of telecommunications from 80 countries to examine the role that interagency collaboration can play to use of the mobile technology to improve the quality, equity and accessibility of education, she pointed out.
The ministerial forum reviewed the model implementation of the ITU M-Powering Development Initiative in four countries, namely Uruguay, Colombia, Peru and Costa Rica, Eng. Al-Awwad went on.
The forum, part of the UNESCO Mobile Learning Week (MLW) which was held between March 7 and 11, she said, adding that the key-speakers at the event included ITU Secretary General Houlin Zhao and UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova. (end) mmb.gb
