Azerbaijan tops South Caucasus countries in International Telecommunication Union`s ICT Development Index 2017

Azerbaijan has the highest achievements in the information and communication technologies sector among the South Caucasus countries, according to International Telecommunication Union (ITU)`s ICT Development Index 2017 (IDI 2017).
Azerbaijan is ranked 65th among 176 countries, while Georgia and Armenia are 74th and 75th respectively, the Ministry of Transport, Communication and High Technologies has told AZERTAC.
Iceland, the Republic of Korea and Switzerland top the IDI 2017 rankings. Denmark, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong (China), the Netherlands, Norway, Luxemburg and Japan are in the top ten.
The latest data on ICT development show continued progress in connectivity and use of ICTs. There has been sustained growth in the availability of communications in the past decade, led by growth in mobile cellular telephony and, more recently, in mobile-broadband. Growth in fixed and mobile-broadband infrastructure has stimulated Internet access and use. The number of mobile-broadband subscriptions worldwide now exceeds 50 per 100 population, enabling improved access to the Internet and online services.
